Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (IATA: REC, ICAO: SBRF) is located in the city of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The airport is approximately 14 km south of the city center and 1 km from Boa Viagem beach. Opened to civil aviation on January 18, 1958, the airport traces its origins to military use during World War II. The airport has a single main runway, approximately 3,007 m long and 45 m wide. It serves millions of passengers annually and is among the busiest airports in Brazil. The airport features duty-free areas, various restaurants, cafes, and shopping stores. Additionally, there are hotels around the airport for passenger accommodation. The airport plays an important role not only in passenger transportation but also in cargo transportation.
